  1. Marvin N, Andrade

Good luck to all the players. Jah Bless. Good luck Luke. Continue to work hard,

  2. Soccer is not about luck, Antigua will have to get much better to have any chance is moving on from this round. This is going to be the real test to measure the maturity of your game.

The EX-German soccer star is in charge of the US soccer team, and from what I am reading about his attitude towards the game for the US team, they will be coming real hardf against Antigua. I personally believe that the US will humiliate the Antigua national team.

  3. @ Puma – You shouldn’t be so negative. The U.S. and Jamaica used to be horrible teams too and then they transformed into respectable teams so why can’t Antigua and Barbuda do the same. I personally believe that if Antigua and Barbuda are aware that U.S.A. will throw everything at them. So I think Antigua will put 10 men behind the ball and counter attack with Peter Byers alone up top. If Antigua comes out with an aggresive approach then yes maybe they will be a bad loss but they’re smarter than that. My heart is with Antigua but my prediction is a 3 or 4 goal loss. I will be rooting for Antigua regardless.

  4. Charles H. – I am not been negative, just stating the obvious. I will agree with your statement that the U.S and Jamasica stated out as horrible teams, but they have made much head way since. Antiguans need to be more humble with their football, I for one does not see the improvement they are boasting about. I personally don’t think that they are ready for the world stage as in a World Cup final. Getting to this stage was not that difficult as country like ST. Kitts has been there before. This is where the real test comes, and what happens after this stage.

You can listen to the daily talk about what they need to do from here onwards since they won over Haiti, but they still cannot scout any good oversears players to come and join the team. I am quite sure that the number of players playing internationally of Antiguan heritage is quite small, and finance is going to be a huge problem moving forward. The government of Antigua and Barbuda does not have any money to spend on football, despite the fact the junior sports minister is promissing a handfull of togetherness with the team.

  5. You’re probably right on the financial situation. I’m not really sure how they are doing in that aspect. Maybe it’s an indication that they don’t have freindlies to prepare for the World Cup Qualifiers. You do need need money to improve so if they don’t have it, it could be trouble for them. As for the overeseas players, there are a number of British Antiguan footballers that haven’t been on the team like Nathaniel Jarvis of Cardiff FC, Dexter Blackstock of Nottingham Forest, Myles Weston of Brentford, Kiernan Hughes-Mason, Anton Blackwood, James Walker and so forth. We have some but are they willing to play for Antigua, that is the question.

Also, they have improved some over the years especially since the start of Antigua Barracuda FC where the home based players play full time. I remember when Guyana beat Antigua 6-0 in the 2006 Caribbean Cup and now I believe the won 3 or 4 straight against them. I believe we can beat any Caribbean team especially at home. The coach is good, he has experience playing in England.

  6. We will see in about five months how they do in this round. Hopefully they can gather some of those players you mentioned. I don’t know any of them, but I am sure they are out there playing good football.

  7. I really believe we can get results at home a win against Jamaica and Guatemala and get a draw against United States. It’s the away matches that I’m worried about. Last time we played Guatemala in Guatemala they beat us 8-1 but that was a long time ago. We will definetely see.
